In case you didn’t know… I’m an atheist… a proud atheist. Overall… being an atheist has improved my life tremendously. When you don’t believe in an afterlife, you are forced to enjoy life to it’s fullest. The idea of evolution makes every living thing a fantastical and highly improbable feat of nature. Human interaction is ridiculously mind boggling when you take a “soul” out of the equation. We really are just a bunch of molecules rubbing up against each other, and that makes ideals like love, hate, confusion, fear, desire, etc even more interesting and impressive. Sure… theists can enjoy life abundantly as well, but they don’t have to. They have their imaginary afterlife to look forward to. Atheists can’t say, “well… life really sucks right now, but it’s okay because when I die I’ll be going to heaven for eternity”

Like I said… atheism is awesome and has improved my quality of life. But it does have it’s drawbacks. For example… death. Death is probably the biggest reason people stick with religion. And you know what… it’s completely understandable. Sure, I think they are delusional and ignorant of the facts of life, but it does make them feel better and I guess that’s a good thing. I cannot even begin to tell you how insane and chaotic the whirling rush of emotions I was feeling were when my father was in surgery after his heart attack. There was a very real chance of him dieing and I did not have the comfort of a belief in an afterlife to calm me down. I still don’t know how I would have reacted had he not made it. Death scares the shit out of me. Sometimes I do wish I was raised as a Christian and had that belief that there is an invisible, all loving god that really deeply cares about me and has a plan for every single person on earth. Yeah… life… WTF?

That felt good to get out.

Okay. Also. Do you ever have to listen to a song a few times before you realize you like it? I do. All the freaking time. And I’m not talking about a song that is only kind of good so it takes a few listens to fully appreciate the intricacies and true meaning of it. No no no… I’m talking about songs like Bad Romance and Running Up That Hill. I had to listen to both songs at least five times each to realize how awesome they are. What the hell? Both songs are fucking amazing! How did I not hear that? Bah.

I am so blessed. Mine eyes have finally seen the coming of the glory of the lord. I cannot believe what I used to be, but I can love and be proud of the man I am now. I met someone. His name: Jesus. Jesus Christ. Yes… I have realized the error of my sinful ways and have accepted the big man himself as my lord and savior. No more Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, or Carl Sagan for this guy! No, sir! It’ll be Pat Robertson, George W. Bush, those wonderful God Hates Fags folks, and late 70s Bob Dylan for me! Hallelujah!
